Drop in Broadband Complaints Confirmed by Ofcom

Since last year, fewer complaints are being registered related to broadband and telephone connections, confirms watchdog, Ofcom. Decline in the real estate business seem to have contributed to this fall. With less people moving to new homes because of the recession, cases of switching of broadband and home phones, which used to contribute to most of the complaints, are not so many.

The other major issues that led to complaints include fixed line and mobile mis-selling, extra charges and silent calls. Within the span of a year, from May 2008 till now, complaints related to broadband migrations and MAC codes have significantly fallen.

Besides the publication of its complaints data, Ofcom also published the latest edition of its Consumer Bulletin, with its focus on certain alterations in consumer-related activities in the past few months. Prosecuting errant companies accused of breaking the law is one of the legal duties of Ofcom, besides highlighting and handling troublesome situations in the telecoms industry. In this regard, Ofcom has released a number of consumer advice guides to help people bail themselves out of issues related to their broadband and telephone connection.

Ofcom also recommends people to consult its advice guide on Migration Authorisation Codes (MACs) that was released last year. Interested consumers can visit ofcom.org.uk/media/features/pipmac to access this guide online.
