The Top Ten

In Texas Hold ‘Em poker, each player is dealt two cards. And though it is possible for any two cards to win, even the hand considered to be the worst – 7 and 2, there are some hands that have more winning potential and power than others.

The hands considered to be the ten best starter hands in Texas Hold ‘Em are:

1. Ace/Ace

2. King/King

3. Queen/Queen

4. Ace/King

5. Jack/Jack

6. 10/10

7. 9/9

8. 8/8

9. Ace/Queen

10. 7/7

If you have the top five hands, you can enter the action from any position at the table. However, if there has been a large raise ahead of you, then it is risky to play hand numbers 6-10.

Although some poker online players might think that a hand like AQ or KQ should be more powerful than medium pocket pair, the fact is that the pair is already a made hand, whereas the higher unpaired cards are drawing cards that might finish to the best pair, but might also miss out entirely.

When you are in early position, raise with Aces or paired Faces to get others to fold. When in middle position, call the blinds with hands 6-10. When in late position with no raise ahead of you, you can raise with any of these ten hands.

If your pocket pair hits a set on the flop, then put out a big raise. Play it like a winner and raise to force your poker online opponents to fold.
